Ever want to grow your own sprouts?! Well, guess what, super star? You can, and it’s so much easier then you might think!
Sprouts are super packed with vitamins, antioxidants, & they aid in detoxification. Broccoli sprouts, which is what I love to grow, contain a chemical called sulforaphane which can help reduce the risk of multiple types of cancers. Broccoli sprouts are slower growing then other types of sprouts, and the warmer the climate, the quicker they grow! They are definitely worth the wait!
What you need:
2 tablespoons of sprout seeds (get my favorite starter kit here)
A quart mason jar (get here)
A sprouting lid (get here)
Filtered or purified water
Place two tablespoons of seed in the mason jar. Cover with warm water & soak in a warm dark place for 8-10 hours. Drain the water.
Rinse the seeds twice a day with warm water for 5 days. It’s very important to drain well each time so the seeds don’t get moldy. You can keep your jar partially turned upside down so any residual water can drain out. Keep the jar in a warm and dark place. Once the sprouts begin to grow, you can move the jar to a sunny spot.
Typically it takes the broccoli spouts about 6-7 days to grow. You can eat them at any time, just make sure they are well rinsed! Enjoy!
